About PMIU

Our History

The Revamping of Non-Teaching DHQ Hospitals across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa emerged from the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s efforts to strengthen and modernize district-level healthcare infrastructure and service delivery. The initiative was initially pursued through a phased approach, beginning with selected DHQ hospitals as a pilot and subsequently expanding its scope across the province.

The COVID-19 pandemic further highlighted the importance of resilient hospital infrastructure, adequate medical equipment, effective human resources, and stronger healthcare systems capable of responding to both routine healthcare needs and future health emergencies.

Building on these lessons and subsequent government initiatives, the project has evolved into a comprehensive programme covering 32 DHQ Hospitals across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Its interventions encompass Civil Infrastructure, Hospital Management Information System (HMIS), Biomedical Equipment, Human Resources, Health Services, and other critical hospital components.

Today, the project represents a major investment in strengthening district-level healthcare and creating modern, efficient, digitally enabled, and patient-centered DHQ hospitals across the province.

Our Mandate

The mandate of the Revamping of Non-Teaching DHQ Hospitals across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is to strengthen the capacity and performance of 32 DHQ hospitals by addressing critical gaps in infrastructure, technology, equipment, human resources, and healthcare service delivery.

The project is mandated to:

  • Modernize hospital infrastructure and improve the physical environment of DHQ hospitals.
  • Implement integrated HMIS and digital health solutions to improve hospital operations, reporting, data management, and decision-making.
  • Strengthen biomedical capacity through the provision and effective utilization of modern medical and biomedical equipment.
  • Improve diagnostic and laboratory services, including the provision of laboratory reagents and analyzers across 32 DHQ hospitals.
  • Strengthen human resources and improve workforce management and institutional capacity.
  • Enhance health service delivery by improving the availability, quality, efficiency, and accessibility of essential hospital services.
  • Improve hospital support services, including cleanliness, hygiene, maintenance, and other essential operational functions.
  • Strengthen monitoring, accountability, and performance management through improved systems, reliable data, and measurable indicators.
  • Promote patient-centered care by creating safer, more responsive, efficient, and dignified healthcare environments.

Through this mandate, the project seeks to establish stronger, more sustainable, accountable, and patient-focused DHQ hospitals capable of delivering quality healthcare services to communities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
